Write us a bit about your shop and creations
My shop is about the romance of the Victorian era; a time when secret conversations were held by the exchange of flowers. Or not so secret as the case might have been. Even the arrangement of the flowers was important; for instance if you had thornapple, orange blossom, purple columbine, iris, white clover, primrose, and spider flower a poem could be made to read like this:
Last night I dreamed of thee,
And our eternal love,
I am resolved to win your affections,
I have faith that you think of me,
But I simply can’t live without you another day,
Elope with me straight away!
There are even flowers that mean yes and no so you could respond to arrangements that asked a question or in this instance reply to a proposal. As you can see this pastime was very romantic and fragrant too!
Each pendant is a unique, original, hand drawn work of art by me and promises to be a favorite amongst all. They are not reproductions or photo copies, they are truly one of a kind. They are affordable, wearable, art in archival inks and papers.
Where do you get inspiration from?
The language of Victorian flowers is all I need to draw inspiration. I find a flower whose meaning strikes me and start from there! However, if I'm ever feeling the need for something new I like to spice up my art with new colors.
What is your favourite creation and the one you are the most proud of?
I have so many this isn't a fair question. It changes by the day, week, and month.
What makes your items special?
My items are all hand drawn, there are no replicas or reproductions. Each one is unique and made just for you.
Do you have any other artistic talents?
I can write a fair story now and then but I'm not published.
What do you love about being an artist?
I love being creative. I was once told by an art teacher that I had the soul of an artist because if there was a single day in my life where I wasn't being creative I would perish. Sharing my creations with others is a perk. I take great pleasure in knowing others find joy from my work, which is all unabashedly pretty and romantic.
Where do you sell your items?
I sell my items at my online store: http://www.InkyProductions.etsy.com/
Any words of wisdom you would like to share?
The only thing one can give an artist is leisure in which to work. To give an artist leisure is actually to take part in his creation. -Ezra Pound, poet (1885-1972)
